Become a domestic God or Goddess with MyComps

An article I read in the paper the other day really made me laugh. Speaking from my own point of view, if I buy an expensive house hold item like a washing machine, dishwasher or oven, I expect them to last a number of years – which of course is not always the case.

With regards to my own vacuum cleaner I think it is doing pretty well – still going strong after 13 years, but wait until you read this…

A vintage Hoover is still making a clean sweep of housework – even though it is older than the man who pushes it. Bill Whitwam was born five years after the Hoover 575 was given to his parents as a wedding present in 1929.

He inherited the cleaner in 1958 and, despite its 81 years of service sucking up crumbs, dust and dirt, he has never had to replace a single part.

Bill, 76, said: “It may be a battered old thing but it still does the job as well as when it was brand new.

“It comes from an age when things were built to last and has outworn dozens of models that have come after it.”

How’s that for longevity? But, as I’ve already said, it’s unlikely that your own appliances will last that long, so I suggest you visit: http://www.mycomps.co.uk/competitions/homes to find some replacements and also in our Computers and Electrical section at: http://www.mycomps.co.uk/competitions/electrical there’s a brand-new dishwasher up for grabs.
